Our Story

Matt Cooper always had a passion for cars.  Growing up in Cardiff by the sea, he has established himself as a local go to guy for all auto repairs.  Matt graduated from San Dieguito and now has owned Brad’s Foreign and Domestic in Encinitas for over 25 years.  He has ASE master technician degrees in Automotive repair, timing drive chain, cooling systems, and AC.  Today he carries the torch running Harris Auto Repair, making friends and satisfying customers one car at a time.  He has always been an active member of the community, sponsoring local little leagues and soccer teams; in addition, he organizes holiday toy and food drives.  He is a proud BBB award winner and collaborates with Father Benno’s soup kitchen and charity thrift shop in Oceanside.

Harris Radiator Works and Air Conditioning first opened their doors in 1947.  The original founders, George and Viola Harris, established the shop in Encinitas California when the population was less than two thousand.  At that time, they knew each of their local customers and ran it the old-fashion way always befriending motorists passing by on the old Pacific Coast Highway 101.  They offered friendly conversation and cups of coffee.  In 1978, Mr. Harris sold the shop to David and Kristin Peters.

With several years as a Mercedes and Porsche technician with more than 40 years knowledge and skill, David continued the business in the tradition of honest business practices.  For nearly 35 years the Peterson family built a army of loyal customers.  David is now enjoying his retirement.  Kristin is still a friendly face you will see behind the counter on most days continuing to make satisfied customers.  In 2012 the wrench was passed to Matt Cooper.
